Artist Statement

You know that feeling when you wake, and it’s the middle of the night, and you’re in a twilight zone where time is distorted. Just like when you’re sick in your room for days at a time and the only signifier of the passing of time is the schedule of shadows moving over your bedroom wall. Shadows like the ones that move in your room and under your eyelids seem to be in some kind of communion with time.  You might be captivated by them because of the way shadows can be ephemeral, or comforted by them being the only constant/familiarity in the changing, rebirthing world around you.

I like to represent movement in nature and the impressions it leaves behind, like the patterns the flow of lava creates, or rust eroding metal.  The creeping of shadows, the distortion of light, helps me to see the aliveness of nature and understand it as witnessing me.
