Artist Statement
I was diagnosed with Dyslexia at 8 years old, at 18 I got my first pair of Irlene colour tinted glassed, and it was like having soft-focus lenses removed from my eyes. For the first time I could see all that was in front of me as a whole, rather than many small photos pieced together.
Jewellery is bringing me so much joy as I do not have to hide who I am, trying to succeed in a world of words with an imagination full of pictures. I am enjoying the chance explore my creativity and release some of the pictures from my mind. To work in different genres of design, from deco inspired pieces, sleek Vouge minimalist and everyday jewellery. I am even letting my inner alternative young adult out to play with some slightly kookier works.
Although I now call Melbourne my home, I was born and raised in West Australia, I have also called places like the UK and Bahrain my home too. I am proud to say I have circumnavigated Australia. I have also quartered the North West of Australia, driving due east from the west coast, close to the tropic of Capricorn, in a 4x4 to Uluru and Alice Springs, then north to Wolfe creek and Lake Argile and along the Gibb river road. Living and exploring this area of Australia has shaped some of this exhibition with the use of Mother of Pearl I collected from Nickol bay, off the coast of Karratha, Ngarluma country, and boarders Yaburarra and Murujuga country.
I have submitted my application to RMIT and hope to attend there in 2025 doing a BA in fine art – gold smithing. I hope to explore who I am as a Jeweller and artist and explore how my culture and history has and will influence my jewellery in the future
