Artist Statement
My journey as an artist unknowingly began in childhood, searching mullock heaps at Lightning Ridge looking for opals, sparking a lifelong fascination with the treasures hidden beneath the earth. Discovering lapidary deepened my appreciation for stone and form, eventually leading me to silversmithing. This discovery unlocked my passion for creating jewellery, where the tactile experience of shaping metal and stone became a way to channel my reflections on life and connection.
Working with a variety of metals constantly challenges my skills, pushing me to explore new techniques and textures. In my jewellery, I delve into the complexities of nature and human relationships—the ebb and flow of connections, whether personal or within larger societal contexts. These bonds are both resilient and fragile, constantly evolving, and I am particularly interested in how they foster empathy, understanding, and mutual growth. My designs aim to reflect the tension and harmony that shape our relationships with each other and the natural world.
