Rimi Kawabata

Artist Statement

In my works, I incorporate various geometric patterns. These patterns are inspired by architecture, nature, and traditional Japanese designs, reflecting my cultural heritage, as well as various patterns found in everyday life. I explore these patterns from different perspectives by folding metal, expressing them through colour variations with different metals, and using 3D CAD. My goal is to capture the simplicity of these designs while also expressing the playful ideas that come to me during the creative process.

I came to Melbourne from Japan in 2022 to learn jewellery making. It was the biggest decision of my life and the first one I made entirely on my own. This decision completely changed my life. In Melbourne, I met many people with beautiful hearts and discovered what I want to do and who I want to become. I created all my pieces with deep gratitude, feeling happiness for being here.
